The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) in Yorkshire and the Humber is supporting York College in a project to engage with businesses (with up to 249 staff) who are either rurally based in North Yorkshire or whose business is conducted in rural areas.
The intention is to provide one to one coaching and mentoring advice and guidance for up to 60 companies (line managers or supervisory staff 1 individual from each company), between the 1st January and 31st July 2008 using the specifically designed ‘How to get the best from your employees’ programme. Each programme will allow individuals to develop skills and knowledge in respect to managing diversity within the workplace. We have six coaches working on the programme and will do our best to match the particular skills and experience of the coach to your business needs.
The areas that the coach will cover are decided and discussed at the first meeting in respect to your individual business, but the following areas can be covered; Recruitment Practice; Employment Practice; Developing employees; Communicating with employees; Access to goods and services, with the impact of the Disability Discrimination Legislation; Avoiding Discriminatory Practice and Action Planning.
Each person joining the programme will be entitled to 4 coaching and development sessions (each up to 3.5 hours), delivered at their place of work. Therefore the person concerned will need to be released from their work to attend the training, and be provided with a quiet office for up to 3.5 hours.
During the first session the trainer will appreciate a tour of the business premises, an explanation of the aims of the business and advice on any particular challenges facing the business. The trainer will then meet with the person selected and agree the development plan for them bearing in mind the business needs to be addressed.
The three following sessions will be tailored to meet the needs identified and provide coaching for the person concerned. The coaching will be broadly based on the diversity aspects of market image, planning, recruitment and retention.
Two toolkits will be used to support the coaching the business toolkit, ’How to get the best from your employees’ and the training toolkit, ’A step by step guide to training your employees’. A copy of both toolkits will be given to the person engaged in the training when the programme is completed.
